Lighting is something I need to consider more in my work, as I usually just use line and shading in a basic way. The above bats are taken from the colour exercise, but I liked the watercolour lighting that shows us he is looking at a laptop in the dark. I photoshopped them to exaggerate the dark vs light.
The image above is from sequential illustration. From being scanned some of the detail in the image is lost but I used pencil to hint at atmosphere and lighting.
Over the summer I practiced using illustrator, and created the image above by layering shapes created by the pencil tool and colour picking certain areas of the face to build up the image. Although different to my usual style (as I don't utilise Illustrator as often as I do Photoshop, and if I did this would not be the style image I would want to create) I think it's relevant to lighting as I had to consider highlights and shadows on the face.
Below are watercolour illustrations that i also did over summer where I emphasised the shadow and highlights. ( these were done under strict teaching by Philip Bannister and that's why they look fairly alright unlike all my other work)
